I am starting to understand how the prophets of old could look upon their society and weep about how the people were acting and how they believed. When looking upon our own society it is easy to become clouded about the sugar coating being placed upon everything and how so many are being told what they want to hear. We are being told everything that we want is at our finger tips and that the road to salvation is easy and through that salvation we will escape any trials that will unfold upon the earth.
Its understandable that many want to believe this message, that we all want to have the easy road to salvation and that our trials will be limited through faith. Unfortunately, this is not what we are told in Scripture. Salvation is the road less taken and entails that we carry our cross every day. That we forsake our being and that we feel for our fellow man more than ourselves. This is easy to say and easy to preach but very few within our society are doing this. I am as guilty as everyone else. We must understand that none of us have achieved this level of personal character and if anyone tells you they have, they are lying to you. We are flawed beings and will be flawed until we receive our new bodies through the salvation of our Creator.
My heart aches at my own trials and tribulations and my own failures but it also aches when I look upon my fellow man. I see the actions of all those around me, proclaiming Christians included, and see nothing but hypocrisy. Everyone is willing to point out the failures of those around them, but they are not willing to look at themselves. Jesus once said that we must pull the plank from our own eye before trying to pull the splinter from someone else’s eye. We, as a society, are failing at this. We have become so bitter and evil that we condemn anyone who may say something that we disagree with. We refuse to study the Word of God to find answers and rely upon what we have been taught. How do you tell someone that what they have been taught since childhood is wrong and that they are on the path of destruction? How can anyone get through to someone so arrogant and proud, proclaiming the gospel, when they have no real clue about the teachings of God?
My heart aches. I cry out to everyone that I can to see what is happening to our world and our Church. I beg for those to listen and instead those same individuals proclaim heresy. Again, how can anyone get through to someone who is unwilling to challenge their faith to determine what they have been taught is true? This task feels like one that is unwinnable, but my faith tells me it must be a task that is challenged.
We must proclaim the truth no matter what forces come upon us. We must continue to fight until the fight has either been won or the race has been finished. We must honor those who have come before us and have done the exact same thing for their generation.
I feel what the prophets of old felt. I am understanding their heart and how they could cry out to God about what their civilization was doing. I will make sure I honor their memory and do the same for my people during the time of our trial.
